c.ompletely f.orgetting s.anity
a wonderful trip
you see, we stop at restaurants and sights along the way
and then there are canyons and potholes
and devils jumping out of the bushes
and I think there’s a moment where I wonder,
why am I bothering? I could have flown over this crevice
and yet
here I am
puttering along the slow and dangerous
route
the same way that weird christian fable went some years ago on circle square
the same way that I hear mythology of the trek to school
you know,
that dangerous and nasty climb into the unknown
along the unbroken path
why pretend it was anything but paved?
only because
in my past it may as well have been gravel
it may as well have been the joyless birth of a bastard
may I have acted irrationally?
of course
may I have jumped to conclusions faster than triggers kill flightless cattle?
of course
may I have thought my role bigger than that of a worker bee?
that remains to be seen
and judgment by this universe doesn’t actually come for me
in the form of a
heaven or hell
but the destiny I have mapped out here, the one I rave about in my own head,
will tell.
