consequential
We’re talking huge commitments
What, to the future?
This life is already decided long before I strap on my rubber boots
And splash and soak in the mud
I can’t tell you
Why greatness needs to be realised in these works
But it must — it must, I say
I deem it necessary to forge false promises on the ones around me
Just to find this acceptance in academia
And what of that ivory tower which commands me so
It doesn’t have that much power; it doesn’t even reflect the wills
Of the community that pays for its upkeep
It laughs in its face– ha, take hold!
We’ll never fail in our endeavours to become what’s right
Even when the chances of that happening are slim
And even when the branches broken in the pursuit are consequential
