McKenna gone = Layton's turn to lead Opposition

I never actually figured it out until now, but the centre-left is wide open now that right-wing front runner candidate Frank McKenna has bailed the sinking Liberal ship.

What does this mean? Layton is the defacto leader that was elected by the most Canadians. And also, considering none of the remaining Liberal leadership contenders (two of which are former Tories, and others of which are right wing enough to lead today’s “moderate” Tories) there is a huge potential for Layton to fill this gap.

No, I’m not condoning a shift to the right, or even further shift to the centre. More like, show Canadians where they stand on the issues and why they’re truly supporters of the NDP at heart.

In other news, the Social Democrat female president of Finland was re-elected, with the full endorsement of the Left Alliance. Go Scandinavian Socialism!
