one pizza, two falafel, three gelato later

random adventures are fun.

today I took the sky train around the city.  I started by finding myself wandering extensively around downtown Vancouver until I stumbled upon the Waterfront station.  It’s quite far from where I am, but powered by the goodness of eggs, hashbrowns and toast (only the best $2.99 can buy) I made it there.  Approximately 22 minutes later I was at Production Way/University, observing a way to get back to SFU. more on that later.

Approximately a little while later, I jumped out. randomly. not while the skytrain was moving, mind you.  Apparently, I was in New Westminister, although I could have sworn it was anywhere else in the world. perhaps the Golden Mile in Regina, for surrounding me were white seniors in condos. oh wait, we don’t have forty story condos in Regina.  Anyway.  I wandered, looking for an Ikea which does not exist in New Westminister, and found the world’s tallest tin soldier instead.  Regardez:

Tin Soldier

It seems there, on the harbour front (the “Quay”, which I will never, ever, be able to pronounce in my head “key”) is a market and some historic sights. None of which were really open this morning during my random walk.

I ventured back to the Skytrain, lost the entire time, and found myself at the Broadway stop.  I knew the area quite well from years past, so I made it to the MEC store with ease.  I wasn’t very delighted with the service at my store… I will have to write the management- seriously. No one helped me in the good 30 minutes I was there- no one approached me, no one really cared when I asked questions, no one seemed engaged.  A rainjacket and random other things (nalgeen bottle, new wallet, … a chocolate bar … ) later, I found myself back downtown and breaking from the midday heat.

Random adventure #2: going back on the Skytrain, taking the SFU 145 shuttle, and learning that route is not significantly faster than waiting out the ride from downtown on the 135.  Oh how a Skytrain stop at SFU would be … damn good. But I imagine it’s not ever in the cards.  Shucks.

Falafel #2 was excellent, much unlike Falafel #1 last night, which tasted like the worst cardboard ever.  Gelato #3 is pending.  Obviously tonight I’ll find some.  I have to take this seriously.  If a tradition is to be ingrained in a day, then eating gelato daily must be my tradition.  I am determined to make it happen and remain slim!  I haven’t had the guts to venture away from the coconut / chocolate combination, however.

Perhaps tomorrow reading and writing will fall onto my lap.  So far I’ve been consumed with simply venturing.
