one step closer

I never had the brain cells that
it takes to master
the effort it takes to film
the emotions it takes to experience
the situations that I’ve somehow avoided.

I do not possess the courage that
it takes to challenge
the systems of society so threatening
to the people I love and long for;
I worship those who have it.

But I have a little power stored up that
pushes the boundaries
of the people around me
whose ignorance prohibits them
from changing themselves.

That power is more than I can hope for
to move a little baby step toward
the world I’d love to achieve
of peace, happiness, fulfillment;
tonight I’m one step closer.
