squirrel
I could pinch those cheeks
and acorns would pop out
chubby little squirrel
hoarding away all that
nourishment
but why, squirrel, why
would you abandon these heights
for a sad little hollow
underground?
to stay hibernated for
as long as death do you part
this lifespan
I thought we’d frolic
I overemphasised the pastures
and barnyards in my mind
what a mistake!
oh squirrel, why did you
crawl there
but the leaves falling
may still remind you of
fate
of destiny that sweetheart
emotions can’t write
in time, perhaps foresight
but no, such occurrences are certainly
not ahead
I doubt I will look forward
to harvest season
when I flee this branch
and abandon you in
my heart for once and
forever.
who would know this squirrel’s nest would be vacant.
