things I love
- people who have never studied politics, beyond an intro class that explains wonderfully easy-to-explain concepts such as “democracy,” “socialism,” and “freedom,” who believe they have any ability to analyse politics.
- people who have never studied politics, but may have dipped their fingers into the waters of other social sciences, who continue to see the world through a fragmented view and don’t understand the concept of “everything is connected” and “everything is political.”
- people who have never studied politics, but given their other worldly knowledge, see themselves as the owners of: morality, ethics, rationale, logistics, economics, foresight, idealism, progress and creativity.
- people who have never studied politics, but did manage to catch “The Day After Tomorrow” and were quite moved by the shimmery light on the lead actor’s face during the all-too-staged rescue missions and whatnot. Oh right, there’s a lot more fucking important things out there.
BUT… let us not also forget, that I also love:
- people who have studied politics, but never one area in particular focus, so that their knowledge is generalised, surface-level analysis, and never really honed in on any particular factoid or area of specialisation. Therefore they are left completely incompetent to provide any analysis whatsoever on ANY issue.
- people who have studied politics, but do it for the wrong reasons: connection to power, being in the same room as power, and devotion to power. Did I forget to mention power? Come, my sociology friends, remind me of the ways humanity may be motivated beyond personal redemption and personal gratification?
- people who have studied politics and assume they know everything. They don’t. Ask Socrates – you’re wiser to know that you know very little. Although it’s also dissapointing.
I also love that this site gets over 10 visitors a day, I don’t know who all of you are, but trust me, I’m appreciative this blabber is reaching SOMEBODY out there!
