this is why

this is why Sarah Slean is one of the most ingenius people in Canada today. I don’t know why the mass public is not recognising this.

The book is sitting on my fake coffee table and the CD is at a friend’s and the poster is on my wall and the autographs are on my bookshelf. she’s a wonderful human being. She eloquently expresses what it means to have personal revolutions so well… so clear… and yet so poetically mysterious that only those of us going through the same process can relate.

I’ve noticed an interesting change in folks. I’ve noticed less hostility, less black-or-white idealism, less rigid categorisation of ourselves. I am starting to like that. I think the labels are damaging. even mine, socialist, will haunt me in the future. but fuck that. I’d rather people not have to identify with anything, other than humanity and compassion and care for the world around us – the big hippie I am proves that I am still idealistic, and a little too black-or-white, but I think it also shows that I have hope in the potential of our species.

especially when I can go on tirades about how useless democracy is if it’s not taken seriously, especially when I can get upset over a viewpoint when really, what does it matter… especially when there are such highs to be found in places such as Rufus Wainwright’s “Angus Dei.”… especially when this experience is always troubling but never unenjoyable.

and most importantly, especially when the forum is always here to vent, to scratch out a few ideas, and to figure out the solutions to today’s problems. I would like to think that, instead of spending so much time fretting on fucking labels, we should actually be spending time accomplishing a few goals. I think I’ll start with cleaning my kitchen.
