Those who shall drink

those who shall drink
on days ending in “y”
have yet to figure out the immediacy
of poverty
or the stereotype they perpetuate
of unchecked banking constantly filled
by MAMA

Those who shall drink
to toasts with no meaning
lack commitment to sobriety
contagiously await roomfuls of laughter
sit out from the dance machine
until their friend intoxication visits again

Those who shall drink
past everyone’s bedtime on a worknight
respect little the position they are in
or the people they hit on for a chance
at solving some self-esteem problems
constantly visible and lacking
bottoms up, drinkers.
