tim hortons

one really should calculate the net effect on the economy if Canada nationalized Tim Horton’s.

  • Would the loss of corporate and capital taxes be offset by profits to the people?
  • Would every job be maintained?
  • Would the workplace conditions improve, including living wages and benefits and stable employment for more than 20 hours a week?
  • Would the coffee become fairtrade without ruining the flavour and quality of the coffee? (i.e., would the same farmers who currently harvest the coffee beans start to get more $$$?)
  • Would it be any less of a Cdn cultural item it was owned by people/state?
  • Would we become more environmentally friendly by giving every Canadian a Tim Horton’s travel mug along with our health cards and SIN cards?

I think these are worthwhile points to discuss.
