WHY WASTE TIME

WHY WASTE TIME
fighting with those who have their own daemons
and wrestle in more ways than one with
convoluted thoughts of what is right and what is righteous

because the drawing out
of violence
is exactly that.

a process few can cope with
and crumbles many
and serves up even the toughest bullies
with their beards and rough demeanors
for lunch.

WHY WASTE TIME
trying to wage a war, literal or literary
with those who have blood splattered on the walls of their insides

because the pain
that they find internalized
with their wounds says so.

to fight off otherwise allies
and to expose their own hidden guilt
in the flaws they judge in others.

WHY WASTE TIME
trying to mend the world?
especially when it seems so unmendable?

because we must.
we socialists believe we’re here
for that one and only reason.
